Addis Ababa March 13/2021 (ENA) Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today reviewed efforts to mechanize agriculture in the Oromia region with a visit to Kegna Agricultural Equipment Manufacturing site in Shashemene.
The public private partnership has enabled the assembly and distribution of 737 tractors to farmers, according to office of the prime minister.
The region aims to farm 1.3 million hectares with the use of tractors, it was learned.
Abiy also visited wheat cluster site in Shopa Woreda, Arsi Zone of Oromia Region.
It was indicated during the occasion that wheat cluster site demonstrates the summer wheat production work in the region that has been extensively engaged in through irrigation.
The 160,000 hectares of the 300,000 planned for this year has been achieved in the region with 300,000 active farmers engaging in the region’s cluster farming approach.
